The Gasshuku is an opportunity to connect with Taiko players from around the globe and immerse yourself in key Taiko concepts, guided by world-class instructors.

Yuta Kato has lived on Hachijo for 15 months and immersed himself in the taiko and culture there. In this intensive he will share his experiences, along with "tendencies" that make Hachijo taiko unique.

This style focuses on improvisation and self-expression, but we will explore these elements in an accessible and fun way, putting them into a song arrangement by the end of the workshop you can take away or use as a starting point for something new!

With several Western-inspired drills, we can mathematically practice a wide-range of all-possible rhythms. We’ll also test our skills with an improvisation-based clapping/vocal style game.
