About the event
Midare Uchi is a piece developed by Sukeroku Daiko, Japan’s first kumi-daiko (ensemble drumming) group and the originators of the Naname - or slant - style of Taiko drumming. Rooted in traditional Bon-daiko rhythms performed during Obon, Japan’s summer festival of remembrance, Midare Uchi blends structured patterns with improvisational expression.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to foundational Bon-daiko rhythms and choreography. The workshop will highlight Fred’s favorite movements, stylistic nuances, and his personal approach to Bon-daiko. This workshop is designed for experienced drummers interested in deepening their understanding of Naname and Matsuri Daiko.
