Issho Taiko Drummers (Free)

Concert by Issho, a group set up in 2011 by Shane Connolly. With taiko drumming as a starting point, the group wanted to explore how the drums could work alongside other instruments and disciplines they were playing. The group was already involved in Glasgow’s improvisation scene, interested in obscure world music, found sounds, math rock and experimental classical folk. It seemed only fitting to try to incorporate the wonderful Taiko drums into their quite eclectic sound worlds. 

The txalaparta is a traditional, (two person) percussion instrument made from wood from the Basque Country. Nerea Bello who comes from the Basque Country and a long time collaborator introduced this instrument to Shane and the band. 

Issho will put together a new performance especially for the festival.
