About the event

The traditional Bunraku style puppetry is a classical and formal art form in Japan and is often accompanied by the beautiful Japanese shamisen.  Bunraku puppetry has inspired many more contemporary style puppet theatres and its unique performance style is now used in productions throughout the world.

For this puppetry/drama workshop participants will create simple figures from paper and cloth.

Working in small groups and through gesture, breath and movement we will set tasks and create simple scenarios for our figures to explore. We will examine different manipulation techniques to see how this might affect the way they respond and engage to their brand new world.

This workshop would be enjoyed by anyone interested in puppetry, drama, comedy, dance, or physical theatre. Ages 14+

We may use the final minutes of this workshop to showcase our findings to an invited audience.
